As a senior in college, I was hit very hard during a game of pickup football and spent the next 20 years as a writer in marketing communications. Here is what I've learned:

Converting all those expensive marketing analytics into actual money-in-the-bank sales involves a lot more than just being a good writer. You have to gain a real-life perception of your audience.
You also have to be able to absorb a ton of information, and quickly translate it into what these people most want to hear.

And this: the best way to communicate to someone is not as an MBA, or a sales executive, or a floor salesperson or any other such label. The best way to communicate to anyone is as a human being.
